Roche Lacour

Roche Lacour has long been a best selling sparkling success story here at Laithwaites with an avid following who eagerly await release of every vintage. Well here it is. This newly released 2003 reveals extraordinary ripeness of fruit thanks to an exceptionally warm vintage yet it retains all of its characteristic, apple-crisp freshness. As always, Roche Lacour is crafted in the same exacting manner as fine vintage Champagne but from the hills of the Limoux region. Extended bottle ageing brings out considerable complexity and a creaminess of texture normally only found in wines at two or more times the price. Pale yellow with a fresh apply nose layered with a hint of fresh yeast. There is a refreshing well balanced fizz with good depth of flavour and a long finish. A celebratory wine par excellence!

Roche Lacour

You'd normally have to move in very fashionable circles to have a wine made for you by the celebrated Leopardi family ... but long-established friendships and contacts have helped open important doors! We're delighted to offer this exclusive Verdicchio Classico (one of Italy's most prized whites) created by Pierfrancesco, the modern day Count Leopardi. The Leopardis have an illustrious history - poets, artists and, for 500 years, celebrated winemakers. A memorable cellar visit from our staff convinced The Count of your enthusiasm for great Italian whites ... so he set about making you one of Italy's most authentic styles. This is the classic white of the unspoilt Marche region - seldom seen here, especially at such a low price. And this special project was blessed by the greatest Italian vintage in living memory! "Light straw colour with golden glints. Subtle pear, almond and elderflower aromas and elegant citrus flavours. Fresh and minerally now but, like good Chablis, will develop a nutty richness with age."

Conti Leopardi 2006

Heartwarmingly rich, Duca Petraccone - our greatest ever Italian discovery - is packed with black fruit flavours ... plus the quality assurance of three awards including a coveted Gold. We couldn't wait to taste Duca Petraccone when senior buyer Thomas Woolrych declared this his best find yet. After all, level-headed Thomas is not one for hyperbole and his many other Italian finds would take some beating ... But he's right, this trumps the lot! It's pure Primitivo - "a hero in southern Italy" The Sunday Times - and comes from the Collucis, family winemakers in Martina Franca for generations. "Deep ruby colour and powerful aromas of spiced dark fruit. The grapes of old vines (70 years-plus!) gives mouthfilling blackberry richness and ripe, food-friendly tannins. Superb with steak or hearty casseroles."

Duca Petraccone Primitivo 2005

In rich, traditional, Gold-medal fashion, this shows why Domaine Chemin Farrat has just been granted 'Grand Vin du Languedoc' status from respected wine guide Dussert Gerber. It's such a dense, full-flavoured red thanks to the venerable age of the estate's vines which grow on the slopes of imposing Montpeyroux. 'Montpeyroux' on the label normally means parting with #10, #15 ... even #20 for a bottle. This is a fraction of the price because the Pons family, master winemakers and owners of Domaine Chemin Farrat for well over a century, want to make a big impression! Elegant deep ruby colour and billowing smoky, black fruit aromas. Rich, round and complex with peppery dark fruit and hints of spice. Rich, warming and an excellent choice with roast venison and other game dishes.

Domaine Chemin Farrat Coteaux du Languedoc Montpeyroux 2006

Multi medal-winning, reserva style wine from the most awarded bodega in the world - this is rare, mature quality indeed ... and it's drinking perfectly right now. Using the great grapes of Rioja - Tempranillo and Garnacha - grown on old vines in the dry and arid landscape of Extremadura near Spain's border with Portugal, the wine spent 12 months American oak before bottle ageing. Elegant, ruby red in the glass with a rich, aromatic nose, it is well structured with balanced fruit and oak character ... and you enjoy a lovely, long lingering finish well after the wine has been swallowed. You will want more. Decant before serving for the best results.

Palacio de Monsalud 2001

Parker-praised winemaker - and local boy - Herve Sabadeil used all his knowledge of the area to carefully selected premium grapes from the best vineyards.
In Northern Italy's premium, mountain-ringed regions of Friuli and Collio there's a tradition of extremely elegant, sophisticated whites and roses - unique, multi-varietal fine wines, mainly enjoyed in Milan and Venice's grandest restaurants, which will set you back #20 a bottle! It was old friend star winemaker Alessandro Gallici's vision to let us in on this Italian secret and produce just such a top-quality, delicious rosato for us. In the "ideal" 2006 vintage, he scoured vineyards for grapes offering maximum purity of intense berry fruit, and lavishly handcrafted the tiny volume, unforgettable Visionario. "My Visionario boasts exquisitely concentrated, aromatic Summer berry flavours and a mineral-laced, crisp finish. A luscious, very elegant and refreshing aperitif, I recommend it too with traditional Italian antipasti." - Alessandro Gallici, winemaker

Visionario Rosato 2006

Marquis de Goulaine Chardonnay 2006

Introducing an exhilarating NEW Chardonnay that wowed a panel of the UK's top wine tasters (including Oz Clarke, Tim Atkin and seven Masters of Wine!) and outscored Grand Cru Chablis, Premier Cru Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet at the prestigious Chardonnay du Monde Competition. With its crisp, citrus minerality and subtle creamy-oak flavours you'd be forgiven for thinking this delicious white hails from pricey Chablis or an expensive Burgundy cellar. It's actually from the Loire Valley, where Chardonnay is pretty rare ... but when it's good, it's very good indeed. Incredibly beautiful, Chateau de Goulaine is one of those fairytale castles the Loire is famous for - and one of the last to still have its own vineyards. Today it's occupied by the 11th Marquis de Goulaine, Robert, and his son Matthieu who tend the estate's historic Chardonnay vines (Robert believes the Goulaines are the oldest winemaking family in the world!) In 2006 - a vintage Loire experts have been raving about - they enjoyed a particularly warm, early Atlantic Spring and a long, hot Summer which produced a bumper crop of perfectly sun-ripened grapes. Deliciously fresh and bursting with abundant stone-fruit flavours - we guarantee that you'll love this great-value discovery!

Marquis de Goulaine Chardonnay 2006

New Zealand is well-suited to Riesling, which loves cooler climates. Picked late in the season when the grapes are extra ripe and rich in sugar, this late harvest Riesling is a rare treat of extraordinary quality. It's scooped two prestigious Gold medals and New Zealand's 'Best Riesling' Trophy to date. Dr John Forrest has established an enviable reputation for his wines over the years with his now-famous Sauvignon Blancs steeling headlines and awards from the legendary Cloudy Bay. Clearly his talents extend to other varieties too! A rich, mouth-watering, sweeter style of Riesling with a luscious texture, an intense core of ripe apricot and passion fruit flavour and zesty-fresh acidity to balance. It's aromatic, concentrated and persistent. Serve chilled on its own or with creme brulee, lemon cheese cake, apricot tart, or Eton Mess.

Stonewall Late Harvest Riesling 2005

Hauntingly aromatic and smooth as silk, with a captivating depth courtesy of ageing in small oak barrels, Stonewall Pinot Noir has the quality to match Burgundies three times the price - yet it's ready to drink now and that's why this tiny, exclusive parcel is such a find. Stonewall's exceptional Pinot shows in pure, delicious, fruit-filled terms why New Zealand is being hailed as 'paradise for lovers of this elusive grape'. You can almost feel the critics' relief - at last, a real challenger to Burgundy and at a fraction of the cost! Instantly appealing. An inviting mulberry-hued glassful, offering rich red-fruit aromas. Full and supple on the palate, oozing crushed strawberry and deep cherry, with a hint of earthy forest and a delicious lingering finish.

Stonewall Pinot Noir 2005

This succulent gem comes from one of the finest cellars in the country, situated in one of Chile's top wine-growing areas. It was created in 1993, and has won many awards in its short life, including six gold medals at the Challenge International du Vin at Blaye-Bourg and four trophies at the Citadelles du Vin in Bordeaux. Adolfo Hurtado is chief winemaker; he joined the company when he was 26 and has twice been awarded 'Winemaker of the Year' by the Chilean Food and Wine writers association. At 32 he was the youngest ever to be honoured! Aldolfo believes passionately in environmentally friendly methods in the vineyard, and much of the winery's vines are certified organic. Any live pests that do appear are removed courtesy of the cellar's flock of geese! Deep, dark and overflowing with rich cassis flavours, the sumptuous red is certainly one to savour.

Casa Del Rio Verde Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
